Keeping the Sabbath

Keeping the Sabbath

Rev. Kevin R Airrington
October 22, 2010

The 4th commandment tells us to keep the Sabbath Holy.  All through scripture we see this command.  Many Christians who love God, sort of hang their hat on this commandment.  And, there is nothing wrong with this, in fact, God bless them.  Jesus said if we love Him we would keep His commandments.  Although, He probably was not just speaking about the 10 commandments found in Exodus.   (John 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”)  Christians that try and truly “keep the Sabbath” as we understand it, are really saying, “I LOVE YOU JESUS.”  Who can argue with that?

No Sabbath Day holder would ever disagree with the following statement, “The primary purpose of the Sabbath is for us to rest from our worldly labors and to seek God.”  As an avid student of the Creation account and the Bible in general, I can assure that God was not tired after is creation work was complete.   *God set aside a special time for His people.  We will discuss the last sentence in more depth later.  God blessed the Sabbath and sanctified it or set it aside for a holy purpose.  We are commanded to set aside time for a holy purpose.

In this essay, I would like to discuss why I chose to not go to church on Saturday and I do not honor some of the traditions surrounding the Sabbath.

  • *The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.
    1. Mark 2:23-28 “… The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
    2. Isaiah 58:13-14 The Sabbath was intended to be a delight, not a burden. The focus of the Sabbath should be on what we can do and not what we cannot do. (More on this later)  The Sabbath is a time we put down our own desires and spend time with God.
  • When is the Sabbath?
    1. Leviticus 23:32, “It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.” This scripture is clear that on the 9th day of the month from evening to evening we should celebrate our Sabbath.   Is this every Saturday?  According to this passage it may not even be on Saturday to begin with.
    2. Saturday in Hebrew is Shabbat, which means rest.
      1. Except for the Sabbath day, the individual days of the week have no names, just numbers.
    3. When God created the heaven and the earth, there were no calendars. Thus, no way to tell us when the first day of the week was.  Perhaps He may have begun on a Wednesday and ended the following Monday.
    4. It is only from our tradition that we assume that God started His creation process on Sunday and ended on Friday.
    5. Rabbi Yose ben Halafta (Died in 160AD) changed the Jewish calendar. So even the Jewish calendar cannot be relied upon.
    6. Exodus 20:8-11 “remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy.” “For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

I THINK IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE DO NOT LET THE “DAY” BECOME MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE “INTENT”.  Don’t let the “day” become more important than the “intent”.

From Scripture there is no way we can tell when the Sabbath was.   Even from outside evidence all we know is in the Hebrew it means “rest” not specifically what day of the week it is.    We cannot simply compare it to our weekly calendar and say, “well, we are not complying”.

  • In today’s modern society it is impossible to keep the Sabbath.
    1. I am sure that, “Sabbath Holders have run into this before and have their answer. Which is fine, but I cannot get away from what the scripture says.
    2. Exodus 20:10, “But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:”
      1. If you use lights, gas, eat food or do anything that causes anyone else to work then you are not keeping the Sabbath.
      2. If your dog fetches your paper or your slippers you are not keeping the Sabbath.
  • There are other activities that the Bible tells us to refrain from in order to keep the Sabbath.
  • Going to Church…Worship on the Sabbath.
    1. Luke 4:16 is an example and Hebrews 10:25 tells us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves.
    2. We should go to church on the Sabbath and we need fellowship, uniting in worship and prayer.
    3. Today, it takes electricity to run the lights…causing people at the light company to work. If we flush the toilet then we cause the person at the water company to work.
  • What did Jesus do with the Sabbath day?
    1. While nowhere in scripture can we find an example of Jesus preaching on the 4th commandment, given He preached on the other 9, we do find examples example as in Luke 4:16 where Jesus entered into the Tabernacle on the Sabbath.
      1. This is different that “Keeping the Sabbath”. He did go to “Church”, showing us as in number 4 above that we need to be in church on the Sabbath.  Nothing more could or should be read into this.
      2. JESUS PREACHED ON ALL 10 OF THE 10 COMMANDMENTS EXCEPT THE 4TH COMMANDMENT, THERE IS NO PREACHING ON THE SABBATH BY JESUS.
        1. Jesus was clear in His teaching of the Sabbath, “The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath!”  He also proclaimed that HE WAS LORD OF THE SABBATH.  Matthew 12:8, Mark 2:28, Luke 6:5
        2. Isn’t someone who created something the owner of it?  Can’t they do whatsoever they please with it?  In this way, Jesus, being the Creator (John 1:3; Colossians 1:6), has every right to do whatever He pleases on the Sabbath, just as anyone of the disciples had when they were with Him.  That’s why Jesus said that He was Lord of the Sabbath.  The word Lord denotes sovereign rights and ownership so who can tell Jesus what He can and what He cannot do on the Sabbath?  Jesus rebuked the religious leaders of the day because they were making the Sabbath something that no one could possibly
    2. Matthew 12:5-6, “Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?…” Jesus was saying that even though the priests violated the Sabbath it was okay because there was something more important than the Sabbath.  The temple and the sacrificial rites were more important.
      1. Jesus, however, is more important than the temple and its sacrifices. The logical conclusion is that he is also more important than the Sabbath. Even before his death and resurrection, he was more important than the Sabbath.
      2. Although Christianity tends to reject the temple and the rites…the principle is still the same…”Some things are more important than the Sabbath.
  • The Pharisees needed to worry more about Jesus (The Holy One) instead of a holy activity on a holy day.
  1. Jesus then summarized his argument about the Sabbath and about his own identity: “If you had known what these words mean, `I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath” (verses 7-8).
  2. Jesus is telling the Pharisees that love for humans is more important than sticking to worship rituals.
  3. The Sabbath was holy only because God had designated it so, and here was God himself telling them He was Lord of the Sabbath.
  • Then they tried to set Jesus up in (V9-11). Healing on the Sabbath was work that was for forbidden.  Jesus replied, “If your sheep fell in a hole would you not get him out?”  Meaning, sometimes we have to do things even if on the Sabbath.  If your child drank a bottle of bleach…would you take him to the emergency room on the Sabbath?
  • There are other examples of Jesus healing on the Sabbath in the Gospels.
    1. John 5:1-18 — The Gospel of John has some additional stories about Jesus’ Sabbath activities, and they reinforce the emphases we have already seen. On the Sabbath, Jesus healed a man who had been an invalid for 38 years. And he told the man, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk” (verse 8). The Jews accused the man of breaking the Sabbath because he was carrying his mat.
      1. I think accusing a man of breaking the Sabbath by carrying his mat his mat is an example from God’s Word of how we can get carried away with (no pun intended) our keeping of the Sabbath.
    2. Jesus risked His life by His activities on the Sabbath.
      1. Jesus never broke the Sabbath, nor did he teach others to break the Sabbath. But neither did he teach against circumcision and sacrifices. He could point out administrative problems, and present himself as the Lord, but it was not yet time to publicly reject any particular law (see John 16:12-13). But the implications are there.  When John describes Jesus as working on the Sabbath, he does not feel compelled to explain that Christians cannot. When Luke says that people are freed on the Sabbath, he does not feel compelled to qualify what he said. Jesus’ example regarding the Sabbath is liberty, not rules.
      2. If Sabbath work actually dishonored God, then the Sabbath would have priority over humans in need and sheep in pits, since correct worship of God is more important than human lives and sheep. If absolute rest were essential to worship, then Sabbath-keepers should let houses burn down, since that would only be a monetary loss, and God’s honor is far more important than our material goods. This indicates that the command to rest on a specific day is a ceremonial matter rather than a moral one. God’s spiritual law does not have any exceptions.

Summary

The only time Paul mentions the Sabbath by name is when he exhorts us not to judge one another concerning the Sabbath days (Colossians 2:16-17).  Respectfully, asking if I keep the Sabbath or I conform to the Sabbath is the wrong question.  I wonder how Jesus would have responded to that?  His answer may have got Him stoned.

The Sabbath was made for man and not the other way around is perhaps the most profound statement in this whole discussion.  God created the Sabbath for man…and God healed on the Sabbath and partook in other activities on the Sabbath.   Jesus’ example regarding the Sabbath is liberty, not rules.  What a blessing the Sabbath is.

There is also no way we can determine the exact day or days (sometimes it is plural) of the Sabbath.  There was no calendar when the Sabbath was created by God.  Even the scriptures seem unclear; calling it day, days and the 9th of the month.  My thinking is the “day” is not so important as is the “intent”.

The Bible says that we are not to cause others to work, not even strangers on the Sabbath.  There is no one…not one who can “keep the Sabbath”.  If this is all there is to the Sabbath.  There has to be more to the intent than a day or whether we do some work.

We see from the Apostles, the early church and Jesus (God) that the Sabbath is going to Church.  We also see in the same breath this is for fellowship, worship and prayer…not forsaking the assembling of one another.

Finally, we have Jesus’ own actions concerning the Sabbath.  Jesus did not (and this is not meant to be a mockery) hide in his house from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.  He worked on the Sabbath and he went to Church on the Sabbath.  He even rebuked the Pharisees over the Sabbath telling them there were more important things like the Temple and people than the Sabbath.  Jesus is Lord over the Sabbath!

The Sabbath is very important to me as a Christian.  We need to just as the scriptures demand; keep the Sabbath Holy.   We need to set aside time for God.  Sundown to sundown…frankly, I don’t think this is enough.   The intent has got to be more important than the day.   I have joked with my Seventh-day Adventist friends saying, “I am a seven day Adventist” meaning, I try to keep every day holy.   However, I am like Paul; I am not judgmental on how anyone cho oses to honor the Sabbath.  If it is sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday…God bless them.  If they do this Wednesday…God bless them.  If it is Sunday morning in Church…God bless them.

I think we should be in worship and in church.  The point is we need to give God or time and that time needs to be holy and hollowed.  After all, He took the time to come down from Heaven, was beaten, tortured and murdered for us.  He deserves our worship; more worship than we can humanly give.   God wants more than our Saturdays.  He wants our Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays too!

WHAT IF I STUMBLE?!

WHAT IF I STUMBLE?!

Rev. Kevin Airrington
April 2, 2017

Back in 1995, one of my favorite Christian groups, DC TALK recorded “WHAT IF I STUMBLE?” and although split up now they ARE STILL serving God through their music through the new group Newsboys and Toby Mac on his own.

When this song first came out I assumed that one of the original group- DC Talk was having a difficult time in their walk. But as the years rolled on I realized that they were not singing specifically about one of them but all of us. And, I for one cannot take it lightly.

The lyrics go like this:

“The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today
Is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips
Then walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle.
That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

What if I stumble
What if I fall?
What if I lose my step
And I make fools of us all?

Will the love continue
When my walk becomes a crawl?”

The Bible tells us that we are the called out. We are the Saints of God…we are the sons of God…we are a peculiar people! We are ambassadors for Christ’s.

2 Corinthians 5:20, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

What if I stumble? What if I stumble and make fools of all of you? What if you stumble and make fools of me and all the called out for Christ?

As ambassadors of Christ, we are examples of His. To be a Christian literally means to be Christ-like. What if I stumble and make a fool of Jesus? What if you stumble and make fool of Jesus? “The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians…” I hate to admit juts how powerful that statement is! The sad truth is it is true.

I knew a guy named Tommy. He was from the Bronx, NY. He was an admitted atheist. One day he puts a video up on youtube and asks the questions, “What is the difference between me, an atheist and you so called Christians?” A Christian could not have done a better job…Tommy goes on:

I smoke…many Christians smoke…
I drink…many Christians drink…
I cuss and swear…many Christians cuss and swear…
I look at porn…many Christians look at porn…
I lie….many Christians lie…

“What is the difference between me, an atheist and you so called Christians?” “The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians…who acknowledge Jesus with their lips…Then walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle”

WOW! What does an unbelieving world see when they look at you? What do they see when they look at me?

I had a lot of respect for Tommy. And I think he had a lot of respect for me too. No, I was not perfect, but he could see that I would not…could not comp[romise.

The song continues…

“Father please forgive me
For I cannot compose
The fear that lives within me
Or the rate at which it grows
Is this one for the people
Is this one for the Lord?”

Isaiah 27:5, “Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me

Take hold of the strength of Christ, so that He may make peace with you…it’s not too late.

“I hear You whispering my name
(You say)
My love for You will never change
(Never change)”

Jesus loves you and His love will never change. If we stumble we have an advocate with the Father. Our Testimony can be as powerful as the Word of God or as weak as a helpless turtle on his back. It’s up to us…

1 John 2:1, “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Galatians 4:6, Romans 8:15, “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba [daddy], Father.

That’s good news. I don’t want to stumble…I don’t want to fall…I do not want to make fools of you all and I definitely do not want to make a fool of Jesus Christ. But if I do…I have an advocate with the Father, whereby I cry Abba!

Creation In The Stars

Creation In The Stars

Rev. Kevin R. Airrington
It amazes me that every single science discipline supports a Creator. What’s more is not only does every science discipline (including math) support creation, they also disprove evolution. And no, evolution is not a science; it’s not even a theory. 🙂 Evolution is a faith based religion, which takes more faith to believe in than the Christian faith I might add. 🙂 I am working on a series of books for kids. One of the books is called “On the 4th day God created the moon.” This is basically an astronomy book for grade school kids from the biblical perspective. Here is a snippet of that book for this discussion. Scientists estimate that there are a lot of stars in the universe.

There are about 70 sextillion stars out there. That’s 10 to the 21st power or 70 with 21 zeros after it.

It looks like this:  70,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Now that’s a lot of stars!  And that’s the ones we know about; we don’t know about the ones we don’t know about. 🙂 There are enough stars out there that we know about, that each person on earth could own 11 trillion stars. You can have 11 trillion of your own stars…yeah!  Have fun…go name ’em. 🙂 The evolutionists want us to believe that all 70 sextillion stars formed over 70 billion years.  That’s impossible!  Do the math with me real quick.

That is over 3.5 trillion stars forming in a year or 6.5 million stars forming every minute…EVERY MINUTE!!!  We don’t see that happening today…nor have we ever saw that happening.  In fact, we have never ever seen a star form.  Oh, sometimes they will say we have…and their evidence is a bright spot.  A bright spot!  🙂  They cannot tell if a dust cloud moved out of the way or a supernova took place (stars get brighter just before they explode).  Even if we have seen a star form…this is a long way off to 6.5 million stars forming in a minute.   You might say, “gee professor, maybe the universe just stopped making stars, did you ever think of that dummy?”  Uh, yes, I have.  So, the universe is popping stars out at the rate of 6.5 billion stars a minute and then for some reason it just stops?  Or at least kicks them out 1 every 10 years or something?  Will you look at what they want your kids to believe Martha?

I believe God…He created the moon, the sun and the stars on day four.  It took Him only one day and the stars were created and completely mature with the light reaching earth etc. Praise God! “Stars burnt out billions of years ago.”

“Stars burnt out billions of years ago, but the light is still just reaching us.”  You know, I can believe that they burnt out some time ago…not billions of years ago…but maybe some burnt out 100 years ago or 1000 years ago.  What’s cool is God…THE GOD OF THE UNIVERSE, and no, not that wimp Zeus is capable if creating a star and sticking it in the sky and making the light reach the earth instantly.

Can I get a witness?  You sure can.  The Bible tells us that God created the angels, including the god of some of you, Satan (ouch) on day 2 of the creation week, how do you know that Kevin?  Don’t worry about it. Just kidding, read this: http://airrington.com/?p=1384.  It probably needs a rewrite…but you will get the point.  The angels were there to watch God do all of this.  “No, now you see there Kevin, now you are off your rocker, the angels have always lived with God, they are eternal just like Him.” Really?  To be honest I am not even sure if they are everlasting like us.

Why did God create angels?  Hebrews 7:14, “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”

He created angels to minister to us!  And, just in case you have never read Genesis, chapter one in the Bible…and I mean the BIBLE, God’s Word, The King James Authorised Version, I will give you a hint, down on day six, God created, man, cows, rabbits, tigers, bears, dinosaurs…you know all your basic land animals.  AND YES, DINOSAURS.  Oh and then He created woman…named her Eve, the mother of all living.

Until God created man, four days later, there was no need for angels.  And you want to know something else cool?  You and I are assigned our own personal guardian angels.  It’s true.  And about every 6 months God gives me two more and the angels pleas with God, “Have you seen him drive his wheelchair God, we can’t take it no more!”

Psalm 91:11, “ For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Cool huh?  And look, it’s 911!  I think when we get to Heaven we are going to be amazed at all the things that angels do.  For more about angels, see my book, AN ANGEL IN MY BATHTUB.

Psalm 19:1, The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”

That’s Him!

That’s Him!

Matthew 11:1-6

In Matthew 11 we find John the Baptist at the lowest moment of his life. He is in Herod’s prison and he has been there for some time. In fact, things go from worse to bad…er…bad to worse or something like that.  After about 16 months of being in jail, John was beheaded. As he sits in that dungeon, Satan has time to introduce doubt into the mind of John concerning the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Isn’t that just like the devil?  COmes at us when we are at our worse.  John begins to question whether or not Jesus is really the Messiah.   You don’t hear too many preachers teaching about this side of John the Baptist…Of course, John had not always doubted! There was a time early in the ministry of our Lord that John was well acquainted with just Who Jesus was, John 1:29; John 3:30.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

and

He must increase, but I must decrease

Now, there is a little question in His mind. So, John sends his disciples to ask Jesus if He is the messiah or not. Jesus responds by telling John’s disciples to go an tell John that Jesus is healing the sick, raising the dead and preaching the Gospel to sinners. In other words, Jesus is telling John, “I’m Him!

I want you to know that there are times when I can sympathize with John. Surely, we all entertain doubts every now and then. If it were possible, I would like to go to John this and have him take a little trip with me.  If I could, I would take John to some places and show him some things about Jesus. When I had done that I can almost hear John saying now, “That’s Him! That’s Him!“. Well, I can’t take John to those places, but you and I can go.  If you are willing, come with me, I want to take you on a little trip and show you some truths about Jesus that should leave us all saying, “That’s Him!

  1. THAT’S HIM IN CREATION

(Let’s go back To The Beginning)

Jesus quoted from Genesis probably more than any other book of the Bible.

  1. His Presence In Creation – (Genesis 1:1)
  2. His Power In Creation – (Colossians 1:16; John 1:10)
  3. His Purpose In Creation – (Genesis 1:26)
  4. That’s Him In Creation
  5. THAT’S HIM IN THE CRADLE

(Let’s go Back To BethlehemLuke 2:1-10)

  1. The Mystery Of His Birth – (John 1:1, 14; Philippians 2:5-8)
  2. The Ministry Of His Birth – (Matthew 1:21; Luke 19:10; Matthew 20:28)
  3. The Majesty Of His Birth – (Philippians 2:5-8)
  4. That’s Him In Creation
  5. That’s Him In The Manger

III. THAT’S HIM IN CONTROL

(Let’s travel to the worst moments in human history)

  1. He Controls Disaster – (John 6:15-21)
  2. He Controls Difficulties – (Ill. Bread – John 6:5-14; Fire – Daniel 3; Lions – Daniel 6)
  3. He Controls Disease – (Matthew 11:5; Luke 4:18 – Jesus healed the blind, the lame, the diseased, the crippled. No disease had the power to stand in the way of His power.)
  4. He Controls Death – (He raised Jairus’ daughter – Luke 8:41-56; He raised the widow’s son – Luke 7:11-16; He raised Lazarus – John 11:43-44) (Ill. He still holds the power over death – John 11:25-26; Revelation 1:18.)
  5. That’s Him In Creation
  6. That’s Him In The Manger

III. That’s Him In Control

  1. THAT’S HIM ON THE CROSS

(Let’s go to war)

  1. His Pain – (Ill. Isaiah 53:4-7; Ill. All He suffered for us!)
  2. His Payment – (I Peter 1:18-19; Revelation 5:9; Revelation 1:5)
  3. His Promise – (Romans 5:6-8; 1 John 2:2; Romabs 10:13; John 6:37)
  4. That’s Him In Creation
  5. That’s Him In The Manager

III. That’s Him In Control

  1. That’s Him On The Cross
  2. THAT’S HIM WEARING THE CROWN

(Ok…get back on the bus and let’s head over to the The Best Day)

  1. His Resurrection – (Matthew 28:1-6; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25)
  2. His Return – (John 14:1-3; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
  3. His Reign – (Hebrews 8:1; Hebrews 10:12; Revelation 19:16)

That’s Him!  We have traveled from Manger to Cross, to resurrection and now to glory.  Jesus is everything that the saint or the sinner needs. That’s Him!  Like John and like Thomas (we have not talked about him…but we all know who Thomas is)…we all have a doubt…but Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be.

Them Thomas thrust his hhand in Jesus’ side…and place his finger in His scared hand, he exclaimed, “My Lord and my God!”, John 20:28

Peter answering Jesus’ question, “Who do you say I am?”   … Peter says,  “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”  Matthew 16:16

Phillip said, “If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God!” Acts  8:37

His enemies declared Him to be God…not a god, but GOD, “The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.John 10:33

Isaiah (Old testament Prophet), “ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.“, Isaiah 9:6

King David claimed Jesus is Lord, “He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,” Matthew 22:43

The Apostle Paul, “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:Colossians 1:15

Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:58

Why is this important?  Because God gave Himself the same title when speaking to Moses, “I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.Exodus 3:14

Jesus, and perhaps the most compelling, said, “ I and my Father are one.John 10:30

1 John 5:7, “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

John 1:1, 1:14,  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.“, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

THAT’S HIM!

If you are not saved, let me just point out this fact: That’s Him! If you are saved, but need God’s help in your life today, let me remind you: That’s Him!  Whatever you need, wherever you are in your walk of life, all you need to know today is this: That’s Him!

It all comes down to this: If you need as Savior, That’s Him. If you need a friend, that’s Him. If you have a need that must be met: that’s Him. If you need forgiveness, that’s Him. If you want to miss Hell and go to Heaven, that’s Him. Whatever you need: that’s Him!

Jesus is the Living God!  That’s Him and He has the power to save to the uttermost!  (Hebrews 7:25) That’s Him!

Final Conclusion: Who did God the Father say Jesus was? “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.” Hebrews 1:8 THAT’S HIM!

PRAYER ROOM

PRAYER ROOM

Pastor Kevin Airrington
January 23, 2016

Pastor C.H. Spurgeon regarded the prayer-meeting as the spiritual thermometer of a church.

I was saved in a small store front church in Medford, Oregon. Even as a young convert I was amazed at the physical real estate that the church devoted to a prayer room.

When we moved to a larger building…priority one was setting up the prayer room. Sometimes we would go to help other churches and they had no prayer room. We would say, “that’s okay we will just meet in their sanctuary”. In one building we used the men’s shower room for prayer!

Many times…we would have no preaching…no song service…no offing plate “Oh my goodness…no offering”…for 90 minutes we PRAYED!!! We had prayer meetings in people’s homes on a regular bases…and some small apartments…with 30…40…50 people praying. People pray in the kitchen…in the laundry room…all the way up the stairs…WE PRAYED!!!

Today, sadly, churches donate much real estate to Sunday school rooms, bathrooms and their Holy Book Stores. But zero space for a prayer room. What’s worse is they do not teach their people to pray.

We knew how to pray…why because the Pastor’s and the church leaders were in those prayer rooms praying with us…they quoted scripture…they lifted their families up…their church up…and we saw revival.

So Pastor…if you have been lacking in your teaching of prayer…if you have not dedicated a place for prayer then it’s ok…you can repent and start this Sunday!

Christian’s if your church does not have a prayer room…and your church does not teach prayer…then go to church this Sunday and encourage your Pastor and your leaders.

Come on Pastor…you know that I am right! Come on church…LET’S PRAY!!!

i agree with Charles Spurgeon regarded the prayer-meeting as the spiritual thermometer of a church. Is your church HOT or ice cold???

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

“Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.” Isaiah 56:7

HOW TO GROW

HOW TO GROW

A person who is “born again” starts a new life similar to that of a newborn infant.  Years ago I ran across seven rules that promote good health in babies . These can be adapted and applied to a Christian’s spiritual growth:

1. Daily Food. Take in the “pure milk of the word” by study and meditation.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth!” 2 Timothy 2:15

2. Fresh Air. Pray often or you will faint. Prayer is the oxygen of the soul.

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16

3. Regular Exercise. Put into practice what you learned in God’s Word.

“And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.” Luke 8:21

4. Adequate Rest. Rely on God at all times in simple faith.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13

5. Clean Surroundings. Avoid evil company and whatever will weaken you spiritually.

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”  Proverbs 13:20

6. Loving Care. Be part of a church where you will benefit from a pastor’s teaching and from Christian fellowship.

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25

7. Periodic Checkups. Regularly examine your spiritual health.

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” 2 Corinthians 13:5

When you were a kid did your parents stand you against the wall and mark off your height?  How exiting it was TO SEE THOSE TICK MARKS GO UP UP UP THE WALL.  Of course we can’t measure spiritual growth by mere marks on the wall. But as we study the character of Christ, each of us can examine our life to see if we are growing more Christlike.

Great Christian leaders agree that we can measure our growth in grace by the growth of our love for private Bible study.  And we can be sure that there is something seriously wrong when we lose our appetite for the Bread of Life. Perhaps we have been eating too many sweets; or taking too little exercise; or we have not been regularly breathing in the fresh air that sweeps over the mountain tops of spiritual communion with God.

This next Sunday my cousin Melody is getting baptized.  I just spoke with her on the phone.  She is so excited.  For years I have tried to share Christ with her…and  she would smirk and perhaps make fun of me a little bit.  A few months ago…she gave her whole heart to God.  She is not perfect….but I see her growth.  It is exciting to watch her.  She said her new bed partner was her Bible and devotional books.  She goes to church, women’s group…home group.  She just wants to be involved.

Oh to be young again!  Remember the zeal you had when you were first saved?  The zeal that Melody is experiencing right now…we can all experience.

John MacArthur says: “The more we grow, the more exciting the Bible becomes to us. The Word is a source of life that helps us mature and grow stronger. Then we are able to defeat Satan, and we come to know more about God and His character. We are enriched in every possible way.”

If you are not growing…maybe you need to have a look at our walk.

God Bless You,

Reverend Kevin Airrington

YOU STUPID MOTHER F******* CHRISTIANS!!!

YOU STUPID MOTHER F******* CHRISTIANS!!!

I have had it! I cannot keep silent no longer.

Rev. Kevin Airrington
July 22,2015
There is way too much cursing on television these days.

I remember when George Jefferson saying H-E-L-L in the 70?s was a big, huge deal. Watch prime time television and you will see times have certainly changed. I’ve seen folks cursing on television (the real curse words) and pray right after! *Whew*  That is a comment from godsygirl.com.  She is right, I have heard EVERY WORD.  F…S…and the one that makes my blood boil GD!  Praying right after is great but let me ask you this, “Why in God’s name would you invite garbage into your living room that you would not do via your television?”  It’s just a question.  🙂

The problem is we have become desensitized to sin.  Now, I am a big boy and the rule at the Airrington house is, “NO RATED R MOVIES!”  Have I watched rated R movies…well of course I have.  But, I have also walked out of a theater, wasting the 60 bucks on tickets, popcorn etc.  I have heard Christians and pretenders say, “I just ignore it.” I’m sorry how can you ignore a bunch of F BOMBS and people taking MY LORDS NAME IN VAIN!!!!  or “It don’t really bother me that much!”  This one is very revealing.  This “Christian”, probably a PRETENDER uses profanity on a regular bases.  I guarantee it.

I have a very dear brother…and I say that with all sincerity.  He is a dear brother.  Before we go to movies together…I check with Focus On The Families Online Movie Review Guide: PLUGGED IN.  My brother is in the category of, “I just ignore the bad language.”  I have known him for about 20 years and I have never heard him swear.  Together we try and pick movies with little swearing (almost IMPOSSIBLE)

Although, I don’t think he knew he was doing this at the time but my cousin Rob Rossi paid me a compliment awhile back. First you have to understand we are different. We love each other…we get along (most days)…but we are different. We have different values, we raise our families different…not wrong just different. I am what some might call a man of God and he is what some might call a man of Busch Beer. smile emoticon

http://ag.christianbook.com/g/affiliate/large_banner/banner4.gif

One day Rob says, “Cuz…” That’s what he calls me when he has something real special to say to me. smile emoticon “Cuz…I see a lot of Christians they do this and they do that and they swear like I do but you don’t and that impresses me.” Now, if my cousin says he is impressed you better listen up because he don’t hand out the compliments often. This doesn’t mean he is a bad guy…he just don’t compliment often. And in spite of what some people may call a flaw in his character…I think he is a pretty nice guy…

My first thought was to use an old Billy Graham line in a 20/20 interview years ago with Barbara Walters…He said, “I am no better, I just repent daily.” And I do, believe me. But that almost sounds a like, “I am better than you.”

I too notice a lot people who claim to be Christians…make no issue of letting the profanity fly. I am not talking about your slip here and there (Although this is questionable as well)…but they swear like it is a part of their vocabulary. What? Christian you are not in control of your mouth? Then who is? The Bible warns us not to be under the control of anything, except the Holy Ghost.

The Bible is clear…swearing is a sin.

The Bible tells us that sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7, Joshua 1:18). It is furthermore described as imaginations of the unrenewed heart (Genesis 6:5; 8:21), defiling (Proverbs 30:12; Isaiah 59:3), disgraceful (Proverbs 14:34), and unrighteous (1 John 5:17), among other things.

Jesus specifically taught that what comes out of a man’s mouth is evidence of what is in his heart. Luke 6:45

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:29, “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” John MacArthur has written of this verse, “The word for ‘corrupt’ refers to that which is foul or rotten, such as spoiled fruit or putrid meat. Foul language of any sort should never pass a Christian’s lips, because it is totally out of character with his new life in Christ.”

1 Peter 3:10 says, “For He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.”

This bears repeating in case you went to sleep on me. The Bible speaks loud and clear on the issue of cussing. The Bible tells us that sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7, Joshua 1:18). We can conclude that from the Biblical definition of sin, our overview of cursing and Scripture’s many expressions on the use of our tongue is without question a sin to curse. As Christians, we are expected to rest on the promises of God, “cleansing ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (2 Corinthians 7:1). Cursing is contrary to resting on God’s promises for it is a failure to follow the Lord’s greatest commandments–to love God and to love people (Matthew 22:37-40). When we curse an individual, we do not love people; and when we curse God, we do not love Him. And if you tale the Lord MY GOD’s Name in vain…that is using His name as a curse word. Holy S., GD, Jesus Christ (as a cuss word)…this is very serious!!!

Now, this is gonna sting. I believe if you are not in control of your tongue, then you probably are not saved. Jesus gives us two examples of how to determine if someone is a Christian. I believe He means for us to know the difference. He said you will know them by their love and you will know them by their fruits. How can you show love to someone when you curse them or God? And how can you have good fruit if your are producing what John McArthur calls spoiled fruit or putrid meat.

I do not cuss because it does not please my Lord. Not because I repent daily…who cares…I mean not who cares because I do repent daily…but I don’t swear because I know that it does not PLEASE JESUS. Nowhere do we have a record of Jesus swearing. Are we not Christians? Doesn’t that mean to be Christlike?

So, Kevin, I have trouble with my tongue am I going to Hell. Well, maybe, however, we are all guilty of breaking the law. All 10 commandments. You say, “I never committed adultery.” Jesus said if you look at a woman with lust you have committed adultery. Well I never murdered. 1 John 3:15, “Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.” We have all lied, stolen, etc.

We are all guilty of breaking the law. Thankfully, God became a man nd he dwelt among us and then died on a tree and on the third day rose again…God forgives us of our sins through the redemption found only in Jesus Christ (John 3:16). He is just to forgive sins if we confess them. If you have trouble with your tongue…repent! Get right with God. Ask the Holy Ghost to be in control of your mouth. What a terrible example…an ambassador of Christ you are spewing swear words!

Listen you cannot convinced me heaven is your home if you cannot control your tongue…so listen up!!! Please…I am trying to warn you not judge you.

Be sure and Like and share if this message touched you. Also, if you Love Jesus…tell someone about Him today.

P.S. Many of you know me…and understand how at times I use shock value to get my post read. This is only because I feel it is important. I apologize if it was offensive to anyone.

BE IT KNOWN TO THEE…

BE IT KNOWN TO THEE…

BE IT KNOWN TO THEE…I WILL NOT SERVE THY GODS, NOR WORSHIP THY GOLDEN IMAGE
It is not a question as to what the Word of God says…it is a question of, “DO WE BELIEVE WHAT IT SAYS?”

You are so right on the money sister…they are coming out of the closet and we are being shoved in it. We go silently…gagged by our own disbelief of the promises of God…bound by strangers in a land promised by God. Who are we and how dare us?

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, three noble youths of Jerusalem, condemned to death in a fiery furnace by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon because of the faithful refusal to worship any god but the God of Israel.

Today, we have three new not so nobles, “SHACK UP, ME SHACK and IN TO BED WE GO!” Today it’s any god but God! Today, “Christians” make so many compromises…we are silent when one woman, Madalyn Murray O’Hair had prayer removed from the schools…and look at the results…teen pregnancy up 993%…the very next year our president was assassinated…violent crime up 1790%…divorce up…unmarried couples living together up nearly 2000%!

Madalyn Murray O’Hair…one woman…and a silent church!!!! Dear God!

The church is SILENT while Obama pushes a gay agenda in 2012…silent when the Supreme Court and little appointed (NOT ELECTED) men in black robes determines who can marry…our standard is not the supreme court…our standard is the WORD OF GOD…and if we want to see the lost redeemed we better WAKE UP and start living like we believe what it says in that ancient of ancient books!!!

Daniel 3:16-18, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar… our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king… BE IT KNOWN TO THEE, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image…”

For their defiance the Bible records an ANGRY Nebuchadnezzar…order the furnace be turned up 7 times higher than normal…Nebuchadnezzar had them bound by the mightiest of his army and cast into the fiery furnace. The king was so urgent and flames shot from the furnace that it killed the men that threw these men of faith in the furnace!

Suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped to his feet and demanded of his counselors…”HOW MANY MEN DID YOU PUT IN THE FURNACE? Was it not three men?” The counselors agreed…yes three men.

Nebuchadnezzar, could not believe what he was seeing. Why these men were no longer bound? Why were they not hurt? And who was this fourth man with them? The Bible records that it was the SON OF GOD!!!! My Jesus. Is He yours?
The princes, the counsellors, the governors and the captains looked on as the king called the men out…they were not hurt…their hair nor clothes burnt…the Bible records that they didn’t even smell of fire!

King Nebuchadnezzar from that day on served the God of Israel and order all to do the same or be cut to pieces.

It is not a question as to what the Word of God says…it is a question of, “DO WE BELIEVE WHAT IT SAYS?” And if we believe what it says are we willing to forsake all our gods…the ipods, the ipads, the television and the boy in the tight wrangler jeans…the girl with her breast about to pop right out of her blouse… the bottle of whiskey…the can of beer on Sunday while we watch our football and eat our processed food…or are you willing to forsake them and stand up and shout, “BE IT KNOWN TO THEE, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image…”

Is there a DANIEL among you? Is there a Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego among you! Will you stand in a fiery furnace dancing with the SON OF GOD or will you keep silent and punch LOL, OMG, TTLY endlessly into your electronic gods. It’s not a god? Get rid of it for a month…a week…a day! Yeah, that’s what I thought!

Is there a DANIEL among you? Is there a Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego among you! If they be among you…share this post and shout… “BE IT KNOWN TO THEE…I WILL NOT SERVE THY GODS, NOR WORSHIP THY GOLDEN IMAGE!!!!!!!”

DENY OURSELVES

DENY OURSELVES

January 9, 2015
Pastor Kevin Airrington

“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” Luke 9″23

Former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz once said, “I’ve been on the top and I’ve been on the bottom. At Arkansas my first year, we won the Orange Bowl. Then everybody loved me. “They put me into the Arkansas Hall of Fame and issued a commemorative stamp in my honor. The next year we lost to Texas, and they had to take away the stamp, because people kept spitting on the wrong side of it.

Life is full of highs and lows, and for many of us it is hard to be humble. But when we deny our own pleasures and desires, and put God first, then we begin to understand what is really important to be filled with God’s desires of love and hope.

Jesus tells us today, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” The cross here is a very important symbol. Carrying the cross means we carry a burden of helping others, it means God is important, it means we have hope, it means we have forgiveness, it means we use our financial resources to help others, and it means we want to share God’s love, forgiveness, and hope with our family, our friends, and our co-workers.

When we deny ourselves, we put God first.

Dear Jesus, you gave up so much for me. Now, guide me as I deny my wishes for yours. In Jesus name, Amen.

AM I A CHRISTIAN?

AM I A CHRISTIAN?

If I am not what can I do?

If you claim to walk in Christ a great way to test this is before you do anything, ask if it glorifies Jesus.

If the answer is no and you do it anyway…i am not your judge but i would say u are probably not saved.

People often make decisions with their flesh. Cover yourself in Jesus…REPENT and turn from your sin and you will begin to see wonderful things.

Romans 6:21, “But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.”

Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.”

Jeremiah 12:13, “They will sow wheat but reap thorns; they will wear themselves out but gain nothing. They will bear the shame of their harvest because of the LORD’s fierce anger.”

Romans 1:32, “Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.”

Romans 6:16, “Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey–whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?”

Galatians 6:8, “Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

The Bible is clear…for a time our sin seems pleasurable but the end leads to death! Over and over New and Old Testament God is clear…our sin leads to our death.

Romans 6:23 The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life!
Please study this out for yourself: http://biblehub.com/romans/6-21.htm

Our sin blinds us to the truth!

Proverbs 26:12
Do you see a person wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for them.

James 4:17
If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

Finally friends to those that say, “I want my cake and eat it too!” or “I will do this sin and when I get everything I think I want I will repent.”

The Bible speaks to that too…

Hebrews 10:26, Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins.

Numbers 15:30
“‘But anyone who sins defiantly, whether native-born or foreigner, blasphemes the LORD and must be cut off from the people of Israel.

Hebrews 6:6 tells us that we DISGRACE JESUS. is that really what we want to do? DISGRACE JESUS!

Worse for them in the end

2 Peter 2:20
If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.

Come on…find true repentance…turn away from your sin…get right with God…you just may be running out of time my friend.

Revelation 2:21-23
I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality.
Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her I will throw into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works, and I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am he who searches mind and heart, and I will give to each of you according to your works.

GOD’s warning to the unrepentant heart:

Revelation 2:5, “Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.”

Dear God…please have mercy on me. Please search my heart…show me my error…show me any sin that I may not have repented…help me to reconcile with those I have wronged. Create in me a clean heart O God. LORD show me how to love…show me how to walk in your will. Please don’t turn your face from me…I’m so sorry LORD for all my transgressions… HELP ME GOD…HELP ME to see Jesus. I love you. Amen”
