Proverbs 24:16

For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

 “Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.” Micah 7:8

As I read this I am reminded of Michael “MickeyGoldmill a fictional boxing trainer created by Sylvester Stallone in the 1976 franchise of the movie Rocky.   In one scene, and it seemed to be a theme throughout the whole series, Rocky was hurt and knocked down to the mat.  It looked as if Rocky may not beat the 10 count.  Suddenly, with great conviction, Mickey yells, “Get up!  Get up!  Don’t you lie down like this!  Get up because Mickey loves ya!”  The famous “Eye of the Tiger” music begins and Rocky gets to his feet with a sudden burst of strength he defeats his opponent.   I submit to you Christian, “Get up!  Get up!  Don’t you lie down like this!  Get up because JESUS loves ya!”

For what it’s Worth you owe it to yourself to grab this movie off Netflix and watch it today.  You should find a total of 6 movies in the franchise.   There are numerous Faith building sermons in this film and if you can’t find it Pastor, you ain’t got no preach in ya!   🙂  Filled with moral values and human triumph…you will cheer for Rocky like its the April 1991 fight putting to great warriors in the ring; Evander Holyfield Vs. George Foreman.   trivia note: Bother Evander & George were Pastors, Ministers of the Gospels of Jesus Christ.

I watched this highly contested bout and although Evander Holyfield’s arm was raised in victory with a decisive unanimous decision…many shouted the fix was in.  This was a 7 round fight where rounds 2 through 7 Foreman had the Champion on the run.  Late in Round 1, Holyfield missed with a left hook, which led to Foreman countering with a big right hook to Holyfield’s head.

Just over three years later George Foreman would shock the world by defeating heavyweight Champion, Michael Moorer.  For most of the fight, Foreman had difficulty keeping up with the younger and faster Moorer. Through the first nine rounds Moorer dominated the fight, winning seven of the nine rounds and the three judges…then, in the 10th round Foreman landed a hard right to the chin of Moorer knocking him out!  Ironically, 7 months earlier Moorer defeated Holyfield in a majority decision.  Foreman was down but not out…he got back up renewed his strength and came back to be the oldest heavyweight Champion in the world at 45.

If you were under the impression that God promises us that life will be a rose without it’s thorns than we need to peel back some layers and have a look at what God has promised us.  In short, “God never promises that life would be a bed of roses at all.”  As a matter of fact my friend, God makes us perfect through adversity and trial.  When the wicked see us with problems they incorrectly assume that we are down for the count; these wicked men gloat at their “apparent” success.   But my Lord, my Savior, My JESUS will raise up the just man again, and He will put down the wicked man, forever! {this is the part where you shout Amen!} 🙂

The context is important. Solomon defied wicked men to plan evil against the righteous. He said, “Don’t wait in ambush at the home of the godly, and don’t raid the house where the godly live.” (Proverbs 24:15), NLT. It is the ancient conflict between the wicked and the righteous.  Solomon, said to be the wisest man that ever lived (how he managed 1000 wives I will NEVER understand.  :))  plainly tells the wicked not even to think about doing anything to disturb the peace of just men. And Proverbs 24:16 gives the fearful reason why!

Though a righteous man or woman may have afflictions in their life, the Lord will deliver them from EVERY affliction (Job 5:17-27; Psalm 34:19). {this is another part where you shout AMEN!} The righteous cry unto the Lord in their troubles, and He delivers them out of every one (Psalm 34:6,17). He holds them by the hand, and He lifts them up from their troubles (Psalm 37:24). But our proverb’s ellipsis – the omitted words – declare that the wicked shall fall into mischief … and not be delivered or helped at all!  That my friend is a sobering fact.

Joseph’s wicked brothers set a trap against him. They plotted against him and sold him as a slave into Egypt. They gloated in their victory over him. In an evil stroke they broke their father’s heart by returning his coat with goat’s blood on it announcing that he had been killed. They were confident they had gotten rid of Joseph forever. However, the Lord Lord was quickly raising him up again to the throne of Egypt, and they would bow before him in fear for their lives in just a few years!  Joseph became second in commend in all of Egypt.  Glory!  Down but not out! {this is where you shout AMEN!}

Satan plotted against against Job. God showed off his servant Job like a polished bowling trophy!  My God spoke these words to the Evil One, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil.”   That slippery snake  begged The Holy God of Israel for permission to disturb Job’s serene life. So, God, conceded and gave His permission.  At this point I question the “wisdom” of Satan…don’t you think God may have had some sort of idea as to the outcome of this challenge?  Just maybe an omnipotent God would have and did see the future.  Satan successively took Job’s assets, income, real estate holdings, family, and then his health. But the Lord still held Job’s hand, and He sent Elihu to correct his wrong thinking.  Most of the book of Job, has Job sitting around in the ashes picking the puss out of his boils with a piece of broken pottery and his “friends”, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite spending their time condemning and ripping at Job. Even Job’s wife turned against him…awww, you know a man can handle just about anything, but when his wife turns on him that is one of the worst pains.   However, The Lord raised him up again and gave him double what he had lost!  {this is the part where you shout AMEN!}

Poor Hannah had no children. Her husband’s other wife, Peninnah, gloated over her and persecuted her for a barren womb. This wicked woman tormented Hannah and caused her to fret. It appeared Hannah was down for good. But the Lord raised her up again and gave her Samuel – the great judge and prophet of Israel … and five other children as well!

David sinned horribly! He alone was responsible! His enemies lay wait against him, even his sons Absalom and Adonijah. Shimei cursed him publicly for being a bloody man. But the Lord forgave David, raised him up again, and destroyed all his enemies without any mercy. He blessed David to oversee the coronation of Solomon and peace on Israel!

Daniel’s enemies plot against him. They searched for any dirt they could find in his professional and personal conduct: they found none.  Politics have not changed in 5000 years. They seduced Darius to make a law against Daniel’s religion. Daniel broke the law and was cast to the lions. They celebrated and gloated. But God raised him up again and threw them down in horrific destruction.

these are just a few examples…you know of others.  I would suggest you find one account and use it as your inspiration to Get up Get up!

Alright, Christian reader! talk to me about the reasons you may fret and worry about your present situation.  Are your enemies plotting against you?  You may not know it.  Sadly, often those that are the closest to us we must keep a close eye on Possibly gloating over your troubles? If you are a child of The Most High God, walking uprightly, our Lord will deliver you from your afflictions and troubles as surely as He delivered the several examples we just read about.

King David had a unique nickname in the Bible.  It was, “man after God’s own heart” – the figure of the Lord Jesus Christ; but he had more adversity and setbacks – fell more times – than any other man in the Old Testament. Yet the Lord raised him up again and again, many more times than seven! You may read of his great confidence in the Lord (Psalm 3:1-8; 27:1-14; 46:1-11; 118:1-18).  THINK ABOUT THIS!

The Apostle Paul was the greatest apostle of Christ, but had more tribulations and persecutions – fell more times – than any other man in the New Testament. But God raised him up again, even from the dead (Acts 14:19-22)! Yet he was never in distress or despair (II Corinthians 4:8-9). He had a list of sufferings that are difficult even to read, but he rejoiced in them all (II Cor 11:23 – 12:10)! Read of his great confidence in God (II Timothy 4:16-18; Hebrews 13:5-6)!  THINK ABOUT THIS!

Satan, the Jews, the Romans, Herod, and Pilate all plotted against our LORD JESUS CHRIST.  They condemned Him at law. They crucified Him. They confirmed His death by a centurion. They watched Him get buried. They posted a guard at His tomb. It appeared He had fallen to never recover. They celebrated and gloated together at ridding themselves of this Man, who had exposed their hypocrisy and destroyed their religious and political sham.

But the sovereign God “raised him from the dead, and set Jesus at His own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come” (Ephesians 1:20-21). Satan and his demons are not relishing at all their appointed day of torment!  I read the last chapter…WE WIN!!!!  {this is where you shout AMEN!}

The Jews were utterly destroyed by the Romans in 70AD, and the Romans were overrun by the Goths in 476AD. Herod and Pilate’s bodies are rotting in the earth, and their souls are suffering in hell. They have fallen into horrific and permanent mischief, and there is no deliverance! And they shall soon bow their knees and confess that Jesus is Lord of all!

Let the wicked beware!  You are on notice as of this moment!  There is hell to pay for messing with the righteous!  Though the just man may fall from time to time, the King of Kings will raise him up again! {this is where you shout AMEN!}

It’s time for you to Get Up Get Up!  Don’t lie down…Get up because JESUS LOVES YOU!  It’s time to rejoice.  If you don’t get anything out of this other the peace of knowing that you do not have to fret or worry, even when you have fallen to adversity or sin. Put your trust in our Jesus, I promise you He WILL lift you up!  Now I shout Amen!
